Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend we went to the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial. It was really interesting and we learned a lot. The bombing claimed 168 lives and left over 800 people injured. The blast destroyed or damaged 324 buildings in a sixteen-block radius, destroyed or burned 86 cars around the site, and shattered glass in 258 nearby buildings.

This is the entrance to the memorial and reflection pool. They used the original foundation of the destroyed building.

There is one chair for every person who died, the smaller ones represent the children. Each chair is placed in certain rows and columns depending on where they were in the building when the bomb went off.

The tree in the background is called the survivor tree. It was standing between the two most damaged building and survived the blast.

One of the rescuers spray painted this on the side of one of the neighboring buildings.

This fence is outside the memorial and people hang pictures etc. to honor their loved ones.

This is above the exit of the memorial.

This is just outside the memorial. The inscription on it says "And Jesus Wept".

Finally, a new post!

So we finally got off our lazy butts and said, Hey! Our wonderful family bought us a camera we should use it and keep them updated on our life here in OKC! So we went to target and bought a case for the camera, while shopping we didn't step in any poo we were on the lookout thanks to Kelsey, but there was a crazy lady by the candy who was lost and asked for directions to the front of the store and we were like, "lady we are from Utah and we dont know how to get anywhere." Anyway, we can now carry the camera everywhere we go so we got some awesome pictures of the great state of Oklahoma, where the winds really do come sweeping down the plains!

I guess this is how they roll here in the panhandle. This is not a truck. Looks like about a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass rolling on 20's! We are going to the bank to see if they will trade our car straight across for one. Keep your fingers crossed!

This is at a lake by our house, called Lake Hefner. They only allow sailboats and windsurfers so it's fun to go and watch all the people and walk around the parkway. There are a lot of dogs there and Charlie really hates them all. He's so antisocial and I don't know where he gets it!

These are the crazy clouds that were over us one day when there was a tornado warning. Nathan says we dont get clouds like this in Utah, being the wonderful state that it is. They are really scary in real life and the news said there would be baseball size hail, that was kind of exciting. Turned out to be a false alarm and it only rained. What do weathermen know anyway!?

All around our complex there are these really ugly ducks and they wag their tails like dogs when you walk by them because everyone feeds them and they think you are going to give them food. They walk in front of your car when you are driving, they poop on your stairs outside your door and scare Charlie so bad that he wont go down the stairs if he sees them at the bottom. Where do they get off thinking you will give them food!

Let me ask you one question...Would you eat at a restaurant that looked like this? I didn't want to, but Nathan insisted. It's called Leo's BBQ and it was even on Diners, Drive In's and Dives. The inside was scarier than the outside if you can believe it. Our dinner was ok, but the dessert was heavenly! It was a delicious strawberry banana cake. Most of you who know me know how I feel about cake Nathan however doesn't feel as strongly about it as I do, but even he thoroughly enjoyed the cake. Don't be surprised if we come back fat.

This is the Oklahoma City skyline, yes there is actually a "downtown" here. All in all it's not too bad here, but we are excited to come home in 5 weeks, 4 days and 12 hours! Yipee!!!
